How networking helps born introverts to make meaningful connections
Jul 14, 2022How can networking help born introverts to make meaningful connections and even become confident as a strategic connector online?
Recently I had the pleasure to sit down with Michele Gennoe in her popular “Mindset Michele TV Show” where she talks with professionals about how they cope with change towards growth.
The mentioned shy and introvert person was the younger me still during university. Moving from Germany to Czech Republic, to Switzerland and eventually to Australia enabled me to finally see the value in networking at a place far away from anyone I knew before.
Professional social media sites like LinkedIn and Twitter enabled me to stay in touch with my new contacts and connect some of them between themselves.
Speaking of networking, I don’t see Sydney and Melbourne as a melting pot where everything is the same and everyone acts in the same way as in the global world.
I rather see these two cities as salad bowls – combining the various ingredients results in a taste as an expression of the combination celebrating cultural diversity!
Michele asks every participant at the beginning what success means to them in terms of family, work, and career. I described it as advancing on the journey towards personal growth.
This is also the learning curve from “what can live give us” up to “how can we contribute”. The longer we progress in our career journey, the more we turn into the “givers gain” mentality and “servant leadership”.
It has been a pleasure to run this interview inside the boardroom of the Castlereagh Boutique Hotel – my favourite historic hotel in Sydney where I serve as one of the Board Directors.
A dream come true for a global traveller and author of hotel guidebooks to apply experience in governance and industry insight.
